Indian wear with a modern touch- How to achieve Indo - Western look

India is growing in many ways, rather rapidly. Our approach is getting broader, our achievements are getting bigger & our lifestyles are changing drastically too. Specially the 'now' generation in India lives a modern life while not letting go of our traditional values. And that has translated into our wardrobes too.

We love our anarkalis, lahengas, sarees & all  things blingy but we also fancy western touches to our desi ensembles. You know in India, we have Indian wear, western wear & then something called 'Indo-Western' wear. That is nothing but a beautiful fusion of elements from Indian fashion and adding western touches to it. Now, the Indo - western style has travelled long from just combining an ethnic 'kurta' with 'jeans'.  From there, there have been many other cool ways invented to wear indian ethnic styles with a dash of western magic. Many fashion designers have & are currently reinventing and showing new ways to rock this fusion.

And today in our The Daily Desi Wardrobe segment, I am going to give you 3 styles incorporating elements of Indian & western wear to create an awesome combo.

1. Cigarette pants:

This trend has been around for a lot of time now, specially on the Pakistani runways. I personally love love love this style!! It gives a very clean and classy appearance. Wearing cigarette pants with kurtas is how we can take this style, up a notch. If you are working & want something different to wear to work without looking informal, you should definitely try straight/cigarette pants with Kurtas.

2. Western inspired kurtas/crop tops:

This is another beautiful way to blend two opposite elements & create an interesting look. A kurta with western elements like a collar or buttons or a cool print will completely modernize your outfit without letting go of it's Indian feel. Here is some inspiration to achieve this look

You see how the style of the kurtas bring in such a change in the appearance of the attire. The traditional kurtas here have a modern vibe to them because of their patterns and detailing.

Not just kurtas but you can also try crop tops with high waisted ethnic skirts or lahengas. This style will not only look cool but also very flattering because this gives the appearance of a thin waist. Also in the western market, crop tops are really in trend right now. So it's the best time to shop this look. Let's get some visual explanation here...

It's a very interesting mixture but let me tell you, this crop top lahenga style is not a complete 'new' fashion statement. Our older generations in some parts of North India have rocked this style too way back. Just ask your grand ma :)

3. Stylish jewellery:

Jhumkas & chaand balis are my all time favorite to wear with desi wear but I also try to venture out and pick out some western statement pieces to mix it up a bit. I soon intend to share my personal statement pieces collection with you all..hopefully :) Adding an interesting piece of jewelry to an Indian outfit brings a whole new wave of freshness. Look how top Bollywood actresses have been sporting this trend.

By changing jewelry choices with your Indian wear you can bring a subtle hint of modern touch to your outfit without going too overboard. This will a perfect way to start if you are thinking of trying something new.
